Technology Changes and Challenges Take Center Stage at 73rd Annual NationaLease Meeting

Member Education Focuses on the Many Ways Technology is Reshaping Business

October 12, 2017, Downers Grove, IL — NationaLease, one of the largest full service truck leasing organizations in North America, hosted its 73rd Annual Meeting at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego, CA, September 17-18. Speakers and sessions at the meeting highlighted the theme, Changes and Challenges: How Technology is Reshaping Business, and also addressed the impact of new and proposed regulations affecting the transportation industry and best practices for managing staff and resources.

Dick Finnegan, CEO with C-Suite Analytics and author of The Power of Stay Interviews for Engagement and Retention, shared his proven steps for increasing engagement and reducing turnover, showing how they directly impact a company’s bottom line.

Rich Leibfried, President with RJL Insurance Services, shared an insurance gap analysis, based on his reviews of insurance policies of many leasing companies, and listed common mistakes and areas where transportation companies can save money and minimize risk.

The opening day concluded with speakers Jason Walker, Vice President of Sales, and Tyler Mortensen, Director of Strategy & Government Sales, for GPS Insight, LLC, discussing big data and how to use telematics to increase customer satisfaction and improve the bottom line. That evening, members and suppliers had the opportunity to network at the evening’s Trade and Technology Fair.

Following the nomination of new NationaLease Board Members, the next morning’s meeting session featured Dick Hyatt, President and CEO with Decisiv, Inc., leading a discussion on the theme of changing technology and what it will mean to the transportation industry and the implications of potential disruption from both current and future competitors.

Matt Clark, Chief Operating Officer with Corcentric, followed with insights into the competitive advantage provided by current technology, citing trends in the areas of procurement, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Donald Broughton, Managing Partner-Principal with Broughton Capital LLC, joined the group to share his insights into the economic trends in the transportation industry and the many industries that impact it, predicting the business environment for the last two quarters of 2017 and beyond.

An afternoon session provided an update on what’s happening on “The Hill,” with Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) President & CEO, Jake Jacob, sharing TRALA’s advocacy on important issues and highlighting pending issues to watch.

Ken Kies, Managing Director of the Federal Policy Group, who represents TRALA before Congress and the White House lobbying for favorable tax reform, updated the members on his group’s activities and the current challenges involved in working with the federal government.

Jane Clark, NationaLease Vice President of Member Services, updated members on new programs and services, followed by Joe Gallick, Senior Vice President of Sales for NationaLease, who recognized Lacy Teague of Salem NationaLease for winning the Top Sales Award for 2016.

The Annual Meeting general session concluded with a presentation from Captain Craig Clapperton of the U.S. Navy, who shared his thoughts on leadership, and offered a truly eye-opening explanation of what the men and women of our Armed Forces do to protect the interests and citizens of the United States.

The closing Awards Dinner on September 18th in the hotel’s historic Crown Room included a wine tasting and pairing, and tips for Power Entertaining by America’s first Master Sommelier, Eddie Osterland.

During the closing ceremonies, Dean Vicha, President of NationaLease, acknowledged outstanding members, departing and newly elected Board Members, along with the newly appointed Chairman of the Board Dave Renz, and outgoing chair Tom Keefer of Kris-Way Truck Leasing, Inc., a NationaLease Member. Vicha also recognized NationaLease member anniversaries and presented a special proclamation to C&W NationaLease, celebrating their 50 years in the NationaLease system.

Jane Clark concluded the ceremony with the presentation of the prestigious annual Leadership Circle Awards recognizing NationaLease Members who consistently exemplify their commitment to the NationaLease System.

The 2018 NationaLease Annual Meeting is scheduled to be held September 16-17 at the JW Marriott Marquis in Miami, FL.
